New Kawama Container library now open!
The new Container Library in Kawama is the third addition to the Sr. Grace container libraries. Once used to ship thousands of books and items of school furniture from Dublin to the Copperbelt, Zambia the container has been transformed into a welcoming space for learning. Painted inside and out, fitted with a lino floor, and with cut-out windows for natural light, it now houses some of the very books and school furniture it once carried, creating a bright and inspiring place for both pupils and the wider community of Kawama.
This achievement, made possible through the generosity of donors and the commitment of many supporters in Ireland and Zambia, marks the fourth library in the Sr. Grace Chibolele Library network. It stands as a lasting contribution to education, empowerment and opportunity, opening the door to countless stories, discoveries, and new possibilities for the children of Kawama.
All of our libraries go by the name of the Sister Grace Public Libraries. The libraries are named after Sr Grace Inambo, a catholic nun from the area who inspired so many in learning, before herself dying very young at age 32. She inspired us all and she continues to do so.
