Volunteer
Every year in August, we bring a small team of volunteers to Zambia, to work in our projects for two weeks. This is an uplifting experience, but it is also hard work. Our volunteers help to train Zambian teachers in literacy skills, they give lessons in computers and IT skills, we give business advice and financial skills training. We are always seeking volunteers, especially teachers and those with IT skills, but everyone with a talent to share and a willing heart is welcome.
Could you be an Inspire Zambia Volunteer?
“A true trip of a lifetime. Make a real difference to the children who deserve it most. The locals and volunteers are brilliant, and I’d recommend it to anyone.“-Tim

Volunteer Experience
Our volunteers travel to Chipulukusu, Ndola, Zambia, where we live for two weeks. Chipulukusu, is one of the poorest and most deprived townships in Zambia, where poverty, illness, disease, malnutrition and deprivation is rife.

Skills Required
There is no set level of skill or qualification required to join us on a volunteer trip to Zambia. We will bring anyone who has a skill to share and the heart to share it. However, patience, good humour, hard work and a willingness to compromise are essential.

Training and Funding
Travelling to Zambia and living in Chipulukusu is not without risk. All volunteers will therefore undergo comprehensive training to keep them safe.
All volunteers must also fundraise to cover the cost of their participation in our volunteer trips, and to contribute to the projects. This is not a holiday: it is hard work.
“My cousin had volunteered in Zambia with Michael and Anna and recommended that I too take part. I was part of the 2022 trip to Zambia and I had such an unforgettable experience with the team.
Firstly, I was able to live the stories that my cousin spoke so fondly of during her time in Zambia while also making my own memories.
As an early childhood educator in Ireland I was part of the education team in Zambia. There were also primary and secondary school teachers so we were able to collaborate and develop learning content for the teachers on the ground in Chipulukusu. It was two weeks of workshops and a celebration ceremony at the end.
Of course, there is a lot of poverty in the area but there is so much support and a strong sense of community too.
The teachers who attended our programme were so grateful for our support and honestly knowing that you’re leaving them with skills to improve the education for the children in their schools is invaluable. This experience gave me friends for life, an appreciation for devout volunteers, and the true meaning of privilege – it’s not as tangible as I originally believed.
Inspire Zambia is a small charity, therefore there are some differences compared to larger charities. Anna and Micheal will go through all of the protocols with you though so that before going you know what to expect.
If volunteering is something you’ve thought about, I highly recommend that you take the opportunity while you can”.– Kate, Volunteer 2022
