The Computer Lab is open!

In June 2025, CAMARA Education (another Irish charity) donated and installed 26 networked desktop computers in our computer lab. This was made possible by the installation of solar power on the roof of the library, which was completed in February 2025, thanks to the generous donations from the 2024 volunteer team. The CAMARA Education computers are a huge upgrade to our stock of donated laptops and have been an instant success. The computer lab is buzzing every day with users ranging from young schoolchildren having their first ever computer classes, to others getting free access to practice their skills.

The computer lab is free to use and open to the public at large and, in truth, we cannot cope with the demand. The computer lab is a unique place where students, job-seekers and entrepreneurs can come to gain vital digital skills, research for their studies, compose CVs and prepare business documentation.

Computer lessons, led by our own local staff, are available to local schools several times a week and in the past month alone we have already reached over 800 young learners from more than ten schools. For many, it was their first experience using a computer. The initial focus for learners is on the basics of file management and computer safety, before they go on to Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. After that, there is no limit to what people can learn and experience.
