Looking forward to 2025
After our expansion in 2024 with the construction and finishing of the new library and the establishment of our new container library in Kawama, 2025 is going to be our year of consolidation. Setting up the administration and operation of the new library will continue into 2025, to ensure that we get the best out of these facilities.
The main pressing issue for the new library is to install solar power, so as to provide enough electricity to run the computer lab and a small pump to provide water to our toilets. Solar power is essential to make the library run.
Our container libraries are a lifeline of learning to the localities in which they are located, but they are all very basic facilities with a limited stock of books. In 2025, our three container libraries will be integrated into the newly constructed library so that each one of them can equally share in the enormous stock of books and resources in the main library. We also hope to provide the container libraries with a small solar power installation each, sufficient to charge a small number of laptops available at each location.

All of the above projects require money from Ireland to continue. We also need money to develop our existing facilities and to provide new services to the people of Zambia.
Why not make a gift to the future of the people of Zambia directly by one of the methods set out at the bottom of this page? If you are struggling to come up with a thoughtful Christmas gift, you could make a donation in the name of someone special, and each donation will be individually acknowledged in writing.
1.Sponsor a Container
Each year, we purchase a second-hand shipping container which we then pack with books and educational materials and send it to Zambia. The books are shared out among many schools and our libraries, and the container itself will be converted to form a new branch library.
Sending a shipping container to Zambia costs about €12,000.00. Would you sponsor part of the cost of sending our next container?

2. Sponsor a Librarian
Would you sponsor a librarian’s salary for six months at €950.00 or for a full year at €1,900.00? Our librarians are the final link in the chain to make our projects work.

3. Let there be light – with solar panels!
Zambia’s electricity infrastructure has failed. There is now almost no public electricity supply available nation-wide so we need to install solar power in our libraries to facilitate basic lighting and the ability to charge up laptops.
Could you sponsor a solar installation? Each solar installation for a container with four solar panels, inverter and battery will cost us about €3,500.00 installed. Each panel costs about €140.00 installed.
If you would like to sponsor a panel call us today to discuss the options or make a donation on the donations tab – Make your gift count this Christmas!
